Overcoming fear of death and accepting dying as a universal truth

Death is a natural phenomenon and not to be feared rather accepted as a universal truth. Dying is a natural phenomenon and one must not grieve death rather accept the realty of dying since it is important for the family members & other near and dear ones of the deceased to move on in life for nature has designed our existence with a forward looking ideology.

Dying is inevitable

Death is inevitable part of any living thing and despite this every human being fear death.

The cause behind grief

This fear of death is due to our over attachment with materialistic objects and also our near & dear ones.

Concept of soul

Death is simply ceasing to exist in the bodily form but as most of the religions believe the soul continues to exist even post death, till one attains moksha or freedom from the various cycle of birth & death

Its difficult to accept death

If we observe nature closely everything that exists in any living form is destined to die then the question arise if death is such an inevitable reality that each one of us has to pass through it without escape then why do we fear death and why are we not able to accept it like other natural events.

Stoic / Philosophical ideology about death

Stoic Philosophers like Marcus Aurelius always suggested to accept death as a natural phenomenon like all other events in life.

Socrates's view on dying

In the view of Socrates with each passing day for those suffering in life it is a sort of punishment from which only death brings relief.

Dying as per Buddhism

Gautam Buddha also suggested that life is in fact full of different sufferings & suggested highest good as dying.

Roman Philosopher on death

As per the Roman philosopher Lucretius our attitude about not to fear death is greatly influenced by several factors since we don’t have any real-time experience or exposure of death so its not logical to term it as bad.

Focus on living happily

Instead we must accept it as part & parcel of our life and focus more on spending each passing day of our life with more positivity & happiness.

Death is decay of physical body & exit of soul.

Value of life is more than Birth & death

Birth & death are two separate aspects of ones life. We need to concentrate more on the time which god blesses us in between these two events, for that time only is in our direct control and we can always choose to either waste it or spend it purposefully.

If we don't realize the value of our birth and start appreciating the beautiful life that almighty has blessed us with we will regret our indifference to this precious gift during the last days of our life and this repentance is very painful since now there is no looking back.

Aristotle's view on dying

In view of Aristotle one must not fear death since dead are more blessed & happier than those living. To die is to return to ones real home.

Dying should not be grieved

Dying should not be grieved nor it should be affected by a cause for fear since dying is part of mother natures scheme and it applies to each living thing as per their destiny since as per Indian belief our birth & death are purely a matter of destiny.

Instead of grieving try doing act of kindness for poor people in memory of departed soul

Instead of endlessly grieving for the deceased it will be more purposeful to channelize the limited energy that we have into dong such acts which can make the person for whom we are grieving memorable for others.

This can be achieved by extending help to others by some social work in whatever manner one can afford without placing any burden on ones existing resources.
